Hey. It's been a few weeks and I'm sure many of you are hungrily awaiting an update. here'goes.
As the last update began, things have been pretty regular at work. More of the same: kids continue to both repulse and charm me, so they are still interesting in a good way.
I've been doing some solitary wandering thorough streets and monuments as English-speaking people are hard to come by (probably one of the reasons I'm still employed). I found the slummier area of the city I'm in. It's slummy in a non-threatening way which is nice. To give you some perspective, it had a driving range over top of a parking lot so there had to be a bit of money there. Most of the driving ranges here are either crammed into an office building (due to the density of most of the city) or they're just massive tarped-in, elevated enclosures that are maybe 100 feet long, and sloped to have the balls trickle down. I don't really see the appeal, but they're usually busy...so it goes here.
I'm thinking of getting a bike so I can leave the city in search of some wild trees. Much of this area is thoroughly developed. A product of the Korean War was that much of the city was flattened and had to be rebuilt, which didn't really leave a whole lot of space for natural growth. It's rare to see a tree that wasn't deliberately planted around here and most things were built within the last 30 or so years. It's kind of like Canada in that respect, but it has a little less elbow room.
Since I've been here, there've been a few moments that, if taken out of context would seem hilarious. For example, the title is one from a co-teacher who had a complaint from his student Elizabeth, a hefty young lad who wouldn't seem to be the picked-on type, that Protos (so-named after a transformer character or some kind of machine) would not stop bothering him. The combination of funny names and a limited vocabulary made it pretty funny. It’s either that or various exclamations by teachers about wiping blood or other bodily substances on teachers or things that teachers care about. Side-note: I've learned that the kids think sneezing is hilarious only because it's a chance to blow your nose without a Kleenex and you can't get in trouble. I can identify with that.
Anyways, just some random thoughts from here. Hope everyone's well and healthy and all that.
I just purchased "Caught by the window" by Pilate. I never really gave them a chance when the album first came out, but it's grown on me. Give it a listen if you need some new music.
